Former WWE World Champion Bryan Danielson left the company in May 2021. However, before joining All Elite Wrestling later that year, Vince McMahon offered him a deal to stay with WWE.
During an interview with Nick Stav, Bryan Danielson recalled that he called Vince McMahon and informed him about signing with AEW. Bryan also stated that at some other time, he received a call from Vince McMahon with a new deal for him to stay in WWE.
He stated:“I called Vince [McMahon] in early August and let him know, ‘Okay, I made my decision and I’m going to do this.“He called me one time in the meantime and said like, ‘Hey, what if we offered you this instead?’ Sir, I’ve already agreed to this thing. And if I was somebody to go back on this—like, I feel like you have a decent amount of respect for me—would you still respect me if I did that? One of the things that you respect about me is that I honor my word.” Vince McMahon replied, “Damn it, you’re right.”
