AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander vs. Mercedes Mone took place at the AEW Full Gear
The match starts off with Moné going for an ankle pick but she is is quickly fended off by Statlander, who takes control for a moment before Moné goes for a Statement Maker. Statlander then manages to break free, but she is is sent out of the ring by Moné who gets caught on a dive attempt.
Statlander then lifts Moné up to walk up the steps onto the apron. Moné then breaks free, but she is caught with a superplex by Statlander who follows it up with a 450 splash and Moné rolls away. This then forces Statlander to leave the ring, favoring her arm as the referee goes to check on her. S
tatlander then insists she can continue, getting back to her feet and just in time to take a Meteora by Moné. She then mocks Statlander, telling the doctor to check on her before sending Statlander into the steps.
Moné then climbs the steps for a double stomp, bringing Statlander back into the ring for a cover and a two count. Moné then hits a DDT off the ropes and she goes for an armbar on Statlander while targeting her hand at the same time. Statlander then struggles as Moné changes the grip, only for Statlander to get to her feet.
Moné then sends Statlander to the corner, eventually dropping her to the mat for a two count. Moné then continues the attack on Statlander with some stomps before sending her to the corner. Statlander then starts to fight back, but Moné catches her with an armbar and switches sides just to keep Statlander off her game.
Statlander then powers to her feet but is dropped down on her arm by Moné, who drives her boot into the arm even more before kicking it away. She then gets back up and hits a big DDT on Statlander, but it’s only good for a near fall which frustrates her.
Moné then stays on the attack, setting up for a long series of vertical suplexes beyond the usual Three Amigos. Moné then hits 13 suplexes in total and this gets a “CEO” chant from the crowd. Moné then looks for a frog splash as she goes up top, but she lands on the boot of Statlander, right into the midsection.
Both women are slow to get back up and they trade strikes. Moné then gets sent into the ropes for a back body drop and into the corner as Statlander sets up for a Saturday Night Fever, but it only gets a two count.
Statlander then rolls to the outside for a breather, but Moné comes after her looking for a Meteora only for Statlander to hit her with a Blue Thunder Bomb to the floor. Statlander then struggles to get up, sliding into the ring as the referee begins the count and it gets to nine before Moné slides into the ring to stop it.
Statlander then gets up, but takes a Backstabber by Moné and she is sent into the corner before hitting another attack. She then sets up for a running kick, but Statlander nails her with a discus lariat instead.
Statlander then goes for a cover, but Moné attacks the arm to stop the pin. She then fights to her feet before Statlander takes control, locking in a Statement Maker on Moné but Moné rolls through for one of her own.
Statlander is then trapped in the middle of the ring, trying to roll through as Moné keeps the hold on but Statlander gets to her feet, bringing Moné up to the turnbuckle as a result. Moné then gets caught on the shoulders of Statlander once more, right into a rib breaker on the way down to the mat.
Statlander then goes for a cover, but Moné narrowly gets her shoulder up at two. Statlander then looks for Saturday Night Fever, but Moné breaks free. She then stops a tombstone attempt and rolls Statlander up for a two, with Statlander responding in kind for a near fall of her own.
Both women then fight to their feet until Statlander gets a package piledriver, but it only gets a two as Moné grabs the bottom rope to save the match for herself. Statlander then brings Moné to the corner but she is fought off, only to block a Meteora attempt.
A hurricanrana attempt is then blocked, but Moné transitions for a reverse rana instead and hits a double knees in the ropes on Statlander. Moné then goes for a cover, but it’s still not enough as Statlander kicks out to save her title. Statlander then hits the Saturday Night Fever for the win.
