During an appearance on The Tonight Show The Rock revealed that he suffered a concussion while filming fights for his new film The Smashing Machine.
The film, which follows the life & career of MMA fighter Mark Kerr, opens this Friday. One of the scenes features Kerr (Rock) facing Kazuyuki Fujita in the PRIDE Grand Prix 2000 Finals. Rock explained that director Benny Safdie wanted the action to look real.
Rock said: “You’ll see in the movie, he’s rocking me over and over again. It was wild. After the fight, you see me and I look like I’m loopy, that’s because I had a concussion. It’s the thing you have to do. If you’re going to make a MMA movie, you have to go all the way. That’s what we did with this.“ h/t to Fightful for the transcription.
