A new report from Fightful Select has provided an update on AEW’s long-rumored plans for a training facility. According to the report, the company discussed opening a developmental facility in Asheville, North Carolina earlier this year. which is the hometown of Adam Copeland, Beth Phoenix, and FTR. The plan would have seen the team would have helped train and develop talent there.
However, rumors in AEW state that the company decided not to do it due to the cost associated with the matter. Fightful select notes that the tentative plans were why Steven Borden, Sting’s son, went to Asheville to train.
While the Asheville facility never came to completion, AEW does currently maintain a building equipped with a ring for talent to use. Before Ace Steel was released from the company in 2022 following the infamous post-All Out brawl, there had been internal talks about him overseeing a potential developmental system for AEW.
